Patrick: How exactly does the Hunq handle with 50+s, with 44s, and with
38s? Ie, what improves with the narrower tires?

38s ought to handle 250 lb pretty darned well. I used to carry my 175 lb
self and 35 lb rear loads on 22 mm actual tires, on sometimes roughish
pavement, with no problems to the tires; I did break spokes on the rear,
but these were Revolutions (IIRC, the spokes broke near the hub flange on
the drive side --fixed, no dish, odd -- and not the alloy nipples). At any
rate, once I had 14/15s installed, no more problems with 22s and loads.

Back when I did a lot more mountain biking, 1989 - 1996 or so, it was
perfectly common to run 50+ mm knobbies on 13 mm (inside) rims; no problems
as long as you kept the pressure at least 30-35 psi.

Patrick Moore, who wishes he could use Steilacombs in sand, but has just
scored a cheap pair of Big Ones, 420 grams on sellers scale!, in sandy ABQ,
