I did the silicone thing on a bike once. Holds the wire in place for sure. 
Downsides: 1) Takes a while to dry, and you have to hold the wire in place with 
masking tape, etc., until it does 2) Won’t want to come off. You’ll have to 
scrape it off, which could damage the paint. I never did manage to get all of 
the dried silicone off that bike ...
