I have a Clementine & of any issues I might have with it, the name is not one of them. But, then again the first bike I ever got new, was a Royce Union 3speed in a ladies step through! My friends made fun of me for a week or so, but I could wup any of them on their Stingrays in a race, so that diffused a lot of their comments.
To a Rivendell enthusiast the names are just what they are, but I did get a bit of pause from the police officer when I told him the name of my stolen bike was a Rosco Bubbe. The average Joe is going to assume a girls name on a step through frame denotes a ladies bike. When the giant Clem L's came out I sent a link to my very tall friend; without even looking at the size he responded that his wife didn't need a new bike!
