Regardless of the merits (or lack thereof) of those arguments, in no way do they affect what goes on on this list that I can see.  Can you show me any instances where I'm incorrect about that?

Steve - Deacon used the phrase "rise of the cancel culture" in his reply to Patrick's inquiry.  The author of the review of that book I cited carefully discusses the intersection of conflicting views that eventually result in the refusal to pay attention to any of them under the guise of some kind of oppression (the need of one side to seize power over another).  IOW, one can't say anything about almost anything in the public realm nowadays without someone pointing to the fact that whatever was said is discriminatory in some way against someone else.  These, as the critical reviewer points out, are the "roots of 'wokeness' ", or a person who is supposedly alert and sensitive to oppressive statements and has the ability to point out the errors of others who made the remarks.

I've corresponded off-line with Deacon in the past and have a good impression of his views and beliefs and that's why I attached that file - for additional  edification on the matter.  But we'd better knock it off or else this thread is going to wind up getting nixed, as well.

The material discussed in the attached file has no relevance to

I think he's responding to issues cited in the attached file.  I
carefully decided not to follow the threads in the "reparations"
post so I'm not sure exactly what was said that triggered his

the basic crux of what he's objecting to.

I read the Deacon's blog post last night. This incidentally
is corresponding with my own return to the RBW Owners Bunch

his words as some of my first.

But like a lot of Deacon's prose I struggle with his words; I
had to reread it a few times to get some meaning. Any idea
what censorship he is talking about? I don't want to dig up
old wounds just to satisfy my curiosity, so if it's better
left unsaid that is fine. But censorship isn't something I
ever really experienced here and I'm hoping that hasn't
        changed in those intervening years.
