Leah,

Not an Ohioan, but my in-laws live in Columbus, and I've done some riding
on the trails around the city and the Scioto River with my wife's
brother-in-law. What can be a really good thing is to settle where you can
easily ride to any of the trails' access points. I'm not a fan of driving
my bike to go for a ride, and I have been spoiled where I live.

Check out some of the maps available online, like the Columbus Metro Bike
Map.

Much of my riding there begins at the in-laws' in Upper Arlington and
reaches the trail before riding on or crossing even medium thorofares.

Sorry for both your and Rusty's rainy GAP/C&O rides last year. Staring at
your front wheel or a couple of feet ahead is no way to really enjoy that
ride. Having easy access to great riding lets you pick the weather and then
the ride instead of the reverse. I am fortunate that most of my GAP
rides come about that way instead of on calendar pages (October IS the
least precipitous for that ride).

Good luck with your geographic cycling transition.
