been there, done that. I'm running a 10 speed Campy Centaur ( square taper) triple that was originally 50-40-30 that I put a 28t small ring on. I'm using an 8 speed shimaNo 11-30 cassette shifting with Simplex retro friction down tube shifters. Centaur rear long cage derailleur too. 9 speed Record chain. Works great on my rando bike.
