I'm curious about the effect of a long wheelbase, particularly ~45 cm
stays, on smoothing out bumps of any size. Also, I've found that tire
quality can affect vibration/harshness, at least indirectly and, I think --
but may be wrong -- directly. Item: certain skinny, sub 25 mm tires (and
short ones at that: 571 and 559 bsds) have felt surprisingly -- well, not
soft, but surprisingly "non-harsh" if not overinflated; I think in
particular of the 559X1" Turbo, long since out of production, that at 23 mm
and 90 psi long elicited surprise from me and my brother for its smoothness
over at least smaller irregularities. OTOH, heavy tires like, item: the old
559X32 Avocet Fastgrips I briefly used rode harshly at a given pressure
(~70) compared to the Kojaks; certainly not much softer than the Turbos
over larger bumps like expansion cracks -- tho' all sorts of qualifications
here. And I am surprised at how harsh even 61mm actual, 622 Big Apples ride
on the Fargo if pumped to more than 30 psi -- the frame to blame, or the
tire?
