I wouldn't say "improve" is the right word, but it provides you with some
facilities for handling them that can be used relatively easily via the
built in REALbasic language.  For a quick ( scuse pun ) and easy way to
handle and play sound files it would be ok, but if you are doing any serious
( low level ) work with sound and sound files, it might be wise to go
directly to the OS ( CoreAudio or DirectX for Windows ) , and also consider
using open source APIs like portaudio.

It all depends on what one wants to do.
