Chelsea have lost a game, Liverpool have lost two and Arsenal have lost one and now so have we. It shows you the measure of the league now. It is not going to be easy. Nobody ever wins this league and says it was easy. But it is going to be difficult." --------------------------------- [28] Rio on romancing 'the birds' --------------------------------- Posted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 by ed: "A few of us not going to Euro 2000 got together and decided to hit Ayia Napa in Cyprus for a holiday. There was me and fellow footballers Frank Lampard, Michael Duberry, Jonathan Woodgate, Kieron Dyer, Jody Morris, Jason Euell and quite a few other mates. I love Napa for the vibe, it played my kind of music. Just like most kids of our age, we watched the England v Germany game in a bar. It was a lively night - we were dancing around like mad things when England won 1-0. Later we fell out of a bar at about 7am and sat outside near the main road with these two birds. We were having burgers and kebabs, like you do after a big session. We told the birds that if they wanted to stay out with us they had to down a bottle of Bud. One did it but the other one couldn't. We said that as a forfeit she had to go into the middle of the road and stop the traffic any way she could for 20 seconds. With cars going past to the left and right of her she started stripping and got her t*** out. The traffic stopped all right and all the geezers were going, 'Yeahhhh!' We all headed down to the beach with a load of beers, alcopops and WKDs. We told the birds they had to down another bottle if they wanted to stay with us ... again the first one does it and the other one can't. But I'm not going into what the forfeit was that time. Use your imagination. On the same holiday came a notorious episode of a few birds and a videotape which, all these years later, is still used as a stick to beat me, Frank and Kieron with. I had sex with one girl, which was taped with her consent, and that was it. OK, I've played up to the camera a bit, but she knew it was on and it didn't bother her. It was made out that the girl was unaware of the filming, but there were only two of us in the room and the camera was on the top of the TV. It was not like it was hidden. It was not one of those tiny cameras you can get these days. It was a bloody huge thing, you couldn't miss it. My performance was on the same tape as a recording of Kieron and Frank with a couple of birds, but it wasn't all at the same time. I didn't even know about what they had done, it was not all one big orgy, as was reported. Somehow, the camera got nicked. About two weeks later I got a call from a newspaper about a video of me shagging a bird. I could have fainted. The video was wrong, yet to me it was harmless, just part of growing up. The truth is some women will do anything to crack on with footballers and, let's be fair, which young players would pass up the opportunity to take them up on some of their offers? Some birds will buy you drinks all night, strip for you, get shagged with other people in the room and do all sorts of tricks. It was highly embarrassing. It's not the best thing when pictures of you having sex are published in the papers. Even though it was harmless, it was just young lads on holiday having fun. We had not got into any trouble with any locals or any police. It was made out we were louts, but we hadn't been involved in drunken brawls, shouting the odds or making other people's lives a misery. But, as footballers, we had certain responsibilities that go with the job. Mum went bananas and Dad said, 'I know kids do things like that all over the world but you're not one of them. You're a footballer and you have to be responsible.' Some of the stories you hear ... I admit I got carried away with it at times but you get older, more responsible and leave that sort of thing behind. You see it for what it's worth - that the women aren't interested in you, just the notoriety and fame of being with a footballer, or anyone famous for that matter. It is fun at the time though, there's no denying that.' --------------------------------- [27] Finance news --------------------------------- Posted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 by ed: from Bloomberg 'Amaranth Advisors LLC, a hedge-fund manager that said its main funds fell about 50 percent this month, is selling European syndicated loan investments, including some made to Manchester United Plc, to raise cash, the London-based Times said, without saying how it got the information. The fund manager is selling assets to meet demands from brokers for additional collateral, or margin, and requests by investors for their money to be returned, the Times said. The funds lost money when a bet on natural gas prices went wrong. Amaranth may ``not find it easy to exit its positions quickly'' because the market for natural gas futures is dominated by a small number of large players, including Morgan Stanley, Touradji Capital, and Goldman Sachs Group Inc., the Times said.' from the Times 'AMARANTH ADVISORS, the $9.5 billion (£5.06 billion) hedge fund manager, has told investors including clients of Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse that it may have lost billions of dollars after it was wrong-footed by a drop in American natural gas prices. The firm has informed investors that its two flagship funds lost nearly 50 per cent this month, turning an earlier year-to-date gain of 22 per cent into a 35 per cent loss. Rivals expressed concern last night that the natural gas markets could be affected if Amaranth has difficulty liquidating its trades. Its problems could be exacerbated if investors demand their money immediately. In an attempt to raise cash to meet margin calls and investor demands for their money, Amaranth is selling most of its ¤ debt, traders said. Amaranth may not find it easy to exit its positions quickly because the natural gas futures market is highly volatile and dominated by a handful of large players, including Morgan Stanley, Touradji Capital and Goldman Sachs. Amaranth has said that it has met all its margin calls. Prime brokers, the investment banks that lend hedge funds money to trade, have tended to demand that their clients increase collateral on their trades when they fall into financial difficulties. Nicholas Maounis, who founded the fund in 2000, told investors in a letter yesterday: We are in discussions with our prime brokers and other counterparties and are working to protect our investors while meeting the obligations of our creditors.Amaranth declined to comment.' --------------------------------- [26] Rio on racist abuse --------------------------------- Posted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 by ed: "If I name the player who came out with the most racist abuse I've ever heard on a football field, no-one would believe it. I guarantee you'd be astonished. Legally I couldn't reveal the bloke's identity because I couldn't prove anything in a court of law, but I heard it loud and clear. It involved a black player in our side at West Ham up against a very well-known opponent. I'm thinking, `Am I hearing this right? I can't be hearing this right'. But it went on throughout the game and our player told me the defender did the same to him every time they played in order to intimidate him. He even admitted that sometimes it worked, which made it all the more depressing.'' --------------------------------- [25] Scousebusting volunteers required to step forward and write about the following games please! --------------------------------- Posted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 by ed: Were you at any of the following games and can write a decent short write up of your memories of the game/day? The doctors told me that I am doing fine, and my ankle is in plaster. Apart from my leg, I feel fine. I will be out of action for about three months. I feel frustrated that I won't be able to play but am confident that, after the operation, I will be stronger than before." --------------------------------- [23] Shrewsbury boss denies we're interested in player --------------------------------- Posted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 by ed: Gary Peters on rumours linking us with Dave Edwards. "If there is any truth in it all then no one has contacted me, which I would find strange. I've done a lot of work with Manchester United and have dealt closely with them. If there is any interest from Manchester United someone would call me. I also go to all Manchester United reserve games at Hyde and talk to the people who run the reserves and youth department and no one has ever mentioned Dave Edwards' name. --------------------------------- [22] Poll saw it, but bottled it... --------------------------------- Posted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 by ed: from the SUN 'JENS LEHMANN is being investigated by police after kicking a water bottle into the Old Trafford crowd. The Arsenal keeper launched the container following treatment for a head knock after Cristiano Ronaldos shot hit him during the 1-0 win over Manchester United. A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: We are investigating a complaint in relation to an allegation that a water bottle was kicked into the crowd in the East Stand. It is alleged the bottle was kicked from the pitch. Enquiries are ongoing. United striker Alan Smith was the subject of a similar probe when with Leeds that led to him being left out of an England squad in 2003. Former United keeper Fabien Barthez was also investigated for a similar incident four years ago. Neither was charged.' --------------------------------- [21] Rio on boos at Charlton --------------------------------- Posted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 by ed: "Soon after, in a game at Charlton, I was booed by the travelling United fans and it was an horrendous experience. Id never had to deal with anything like that before. It wasnt something Id expected. All I kept hearing was F*** off Rio. I understood they were doing it because of what was being said in the Press about the meeting with Kenyon. What made it worse was that it was not long after the news about Chelsea supposedly having a meeting with Ashley Cole. Not only were the papers saying that I wanted to go to Chelsea, which was rubbish, but also that I should sign the new contract with United straight away because the club had backed me over the missed drugs test. But everyone has a right to negotiate. When I walked off I clapped the fans but they booed me even more. It was a sign of things to come and an uneasy relationship developed between me and the fans which went on for quite a while. I was naive. I couldnt believe anyone would think I would be organising a move to Chelsea over dinner and drinks in a packed restaurant and bar. Sometimes you allow yourself to trust in the system and hope that people wont interpret incidents in a certain way. But often they do. I understand why the public thought there might have been something in it and it was definitely a mistake on my part. I should have left when I saw Kenyon there. I got on with the season and we reached the FA Cup final. We pummelled Arsenal. Ive never seen them play so defensively. We hit the post, the crossbar, had shots off the line, everything. Rooney and Ronaldo were on fire but it wasnt our day. It was my first FA Cup final and it left a bitter taste in my mouth when Arsenal lifted that cup. They knew theyd gotten away with murder. I dont even know where the losers medal is and I dont want to know. The only bonus at the end of that trophy-less season was that I was back playing football again." --------------------------------- [20] Rio on 'meeting' Kenyon --------------------------------- Posted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 by ed: from SUN "I FEARED the worst when the picture was in the papers and decided that I would go and see the manager when I arrived for training and explain. I didnt need to. He called me in first thing and went absolutely bananas. He said: What the hells going on? He hammered me and quite rightly. I got the treatment. Id never seen him so angry; it was far worse than when I missed the drugs test. Much worse. I couldnt say a lot because I was in the wrong. I just said again, Boss, I dont want to sign for nobody. I want to sign for Man United. I told you at the beginning I want to sign for United. For a moment I was worried he was going to say, B******s Im going to sell you. The meeting went on for 15 minutes and he was going: You know how people will interpret it. It doesnt matter what you said. It doesnt matter if you were talking about the price of milk, the time of day or the colour of the table you were sitting at. Its just so stupid of you to go there and meet Kenyon. Once you walked into the restaurant and saw him there, you dont sit down, you go straight back out again. I knew the general public were not going to give me the benefit of the doubt over this one because of how I had explained my missed drugs test. First I said Id forgotten the test and that I didnt talk to Kenyon about joining Chelsea at dinner. I can see its hard to believe, without me explaining it, but its the truth. I didnt want to sign for anyone other than United. The trouble was, how could I prove that? It didnt help that the meeting had come after we had suffered a c**p defeat at Norwich either. Beaten by a team we should have been able to put away and then, there I was straight afterwards with Chelseas chief executive. I only had myself to blame though and all I could say to the manager was that I hadnt spoken to anyone about going to Chelsea or anywhere else and he had to take my word for that. I dont know if he believed me or not." http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-2051413-10294323 Check http://www.rednews.co.uk to view the image which has been removed from plain text email version of news http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-2051413-5590804 Click here Check http://www.rednews.co.uk to view the image which has been removed from plain text email version of news --------------------------------- [19] Park on op --------------------------------- Posted Tuesday, September 19, 2006 by ed: "The operation went well. Luton Town's Mike Newell says football agent Charles Collymore offered him a cut of a player's fee that he tried to negotiate. Mr Newell says he rejected the offer and reported the agent to the Football Association. Mr Collymore, who works as a freelance agent, denies offering or accepting any bungs. Bungs are defined as illegal payments made to managers during transfer dealings. Mr Collymore, in undercover BBC filming, said he knew eight Premiership managers who would accept bungs. He made the allegation to a Uefa-licensed coach Knut Auf dem Berge who worked undercover for the BBC's Panorama programme for nine months on an investigation into corruption in football. Mr Collymore says he gave Knut Auf dem Berge false information because he was suspicious of his agenda. Mr Newell met the Football Association in January to discuss his allegations that transfer bungs are rife in football. Lord Stevens, the former Metropolitan Police Commissioner, has been appointed as head of a probe into alleged transfer bungs in the Premier League. He is looking at irregular payments in transfer deals made since 1 January 2004. He is expected to publish his findings imminently.' He has been the leader of the team in many ways. To lose him so early is a blow to us. His form has been absolutely outstanding since the start of the season. Interestingly, its the first time he has ever suffered a hamstring injury in his right leg. So, were hoping it wont take too long to heal. Ji-sung Park is a big loss too. He had a successful operation last week, so hopefully he will be back fit and well. We always put a conservative figure on injuries. We should have him back at least in training after three months. But, if the rehabilitation is a success and he shows good recovery, he may be back playing in that time. Its difficult to tell because we dont have experience of his recovery from injuries. If he is a good healer, as some players are, then he could be back playing after three months. We hope that is the case. --------------------------------- [11] Fergie on Carrick fitness --------------------------------- Posted Monday, September 18, 2006 by ed: Hes an excellent footballer, and definitely a Manchester United player. Hes like Wayne Rooney at the moment, he needs games to get his match fitness up. --------------------------------- [10] Carrick --------------------------------- Posted Monday, September 18, 2006 by ed: I only played one game before getting injured, so I was disappointed not to be ready for the start of the season. Match fitness will take a few games, but Im looking forward to it. Im taking everything as it comes, I just want to get in the team and stay there. But Im not taking that for granted, there is a lot of quality here. The club is so big, and its not until you get here that you realise how big it is. I think that spurs you on and its definitely a challenge. I was never concerned about the size of the club when I was considering Uniteds offer. Im quietly confident in my own ability. You have to be sure of your ability to play at this level. Theres a gap between the two. Spurs is a great club and I improved so much as a player in the two years I was there. But coming to United is totally different. There is a different kind of pressure and expectation here. The real difference is that, at Spurs, if you win a trophy its a big achievement. At United, you have to win a trophy or its a major disappointment. You have to take that in your stride, which is what Im doing." http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-2051413-10351781 Check http://www.rednews.co.uk to view the image which has been removed from plain text email version of news http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-2051413-10295995 Have a Free £25 bet on totesport Check http://www.rednews.co.uk to view the image which has been removed from plain text email version of news --------------------------------- [9] Les Olive memorial service --------------------------------- Posted Monday, September 18, 2006 by ed: Took place at Old Trafford last Friday, with over 200 in attendance in the Evolution lounge in the NE Quadrants. Obviously with Brian's reputation - seen it all, done it all - the players want to listen to him and I think it has given everyone around the place a lift, including Stuart McCall (assistant manager) and myself. He is at his happiest and most contented when he is on the pitch at training - it is getting him off the pitch which is the difficulty because he will talk all day to the players. He just wants to improve individuals and it is great to take a lot of weight off mine and Stuart's shoulders. I felt that Manchester United had the need to take a central midfielder. They paid a bit more because Tottenham did not necessarily want to lose him. That is the explanation of his price. Manchester United maybe said 'we want him and if it costs a little bit more we will take him anyway because we want to build a big team'. But I personally rate him as a player because he nearly came here. When Vieira wanted to leave and asked for [Real] Madrid, it was Carrick I planned to replace him with. It did not happen because Vieira stayed and I felt, to make him come and not play - we had Edu, Vieira, Gilberto and already [Cesc] Fabregas - it was unfair to him. This time I did not go in for him again, because I knew that Tottenham to Arsenal is an expensive way." --------------------------------- [3] Kevin Nolan on... Eric --------------------------------- Posted Monday, September 18, 2006 by ed: "Eric Cantona was my favourite player as a kid. I loved watching him, he was absolutely brilliant and I really can't praise him highly enough. The best player I have played against until now would be Roy Keane. In all the times I played against him, I don't think I got anywhere near him - even to try to kick him! But I think Steven Gerrard is going to take his place. Every time I play against him he gets better in my eyes." --------------------------------- [2] Eagles made his first team debut at the weekend for NEC --------------------------------- Posted Monday, September 18, 2006 by ed: but he also scored the equaliser for the reserves of N.E.C. in a game that ended 1-1 v F.C. Kildare, Ireland September 22-24, 2006. Europe v USA The European team go into this years Ryder Cup in the unusual position of favourites. Having won 4 of the last 5 renewals, maybe that accolade has been a long time coming. Ian Woosnams team have an abundance of experience and all bar the two Swedish debutants boast winning Ryder Cup form. In contrast the US team captained by Tom Lehman have four players making their Ryder Cup debuts and have only three veterans of the Battle Of Brookline, the last time the US lifted the Cup. Outright Prices from sportingodds.com: Europe 8/11 USA 5/4 The Tie 11/1. PRICE SPOT: The last time the Ryder Cup ended in a tie was in 1989 at The Belfry. Europe Team Colin Montgomerie (Scotland): He may have never won a Major but his nerve always holds up in the Ryder Cup. Monty thrives on the team game, and will be one of Europes key players this weekend. Sergio Garcia (Spain): With five top ten finishes in his last six tournaments, Sergios form is peaking at the right time. He will know the opposition better than most of his team-mates as he tends to ply his trade on both sides of the Atlantic. Luke Donald (England): Made a winning Ryder Cup debut at Oakland Hills in 2004. Won a second US tour tournament with a victory in the Honda Classic in March 2006. Padraig Harrington (Ireland): A superb fifth placed finish in this years US Open. Knows the K Club course inside out. Missed out on top spot in the European Tour order of merit in both 2001 and 2002, narrowly finishing second to Retief Goosen on both occasions. Darren Clarke (Northern Ireland): One of Ian Woosnams captains picks after missing much of the qualifying period due to well publicised reasons. A veteran of four Ryder Cups and has only ended up on the losing team once. Lee Westwood (England): The other captains pick in the European team. Proved his worth in 2004 when he joined an elite list of players to go unbeaten in 5 matches during a Ryder Cup weekend responsible for four and a half of Europes eighteen and a half points. David Howell (England): When none other than Tiger Woods calls you a Cool Dude you must be ice cold!!! Woods christened Howell with that nickname after he got outscored by the Englishman in the 2006 HSBC Championship in Shanghai. Jose Marie Olazabal (Spain): The only player in the European team to have been on the losing side more often than the winning one in the Ryder Cup. Along with Montgomerie will be one of the players that Woosnam will rely on for experience. Paul Casey (England): Fresh from his win at Wentworth in the World Match Play Championship. Casey has been in fine form all season. Another player who made his Ryder Cup debut in the European victory at Oakland Hills in 2004. Paul McGinley (Ireland): This will be McGinleys third Ryder Cup, having been on the winning team in 2002 and 2004. A World Cup winner with Ireland and will be at home on the K Club course. Robert Karlsson & Henrik Stenson (both Sweden): The two Swedes make their Ryder Cup debuts. Stenson came to prominence in 2005 and should figure in many more Ryder Cups. Karlsson has won two tournaments already in 2006. Top European Points Scorer Prices from sportingodds.com: Montgomerie 6/1, Garcia 6/1, Clarke 7/1, Harrington 7/1, Donald 15/2, Westwood 8/1, Casey 8/1, Howell 10/1, Stenson 12/1, Olazabal 12/1, Karlsson 22/1, McGinley 25/1. PRICE SPOT: Garcia and Westwood dead-heated for top European Scorer with four and a half points each in 2004. USA Team Tiger Woods: Tigers Ryder Cup record doesnt compare with his record as an individual. Quite possibly the best golfer of all time, Woods does not seem to thrive on the team event. Phil Mickelson: Second only to Woods in terms of current players with major victories. His bitter rivalry with Tiger had been cited as one of the major reasons the US failed in 2004, their ill-fated pairing on day one a low moment for both. Jim Furyk: Along with Woods and Mickelson, Furyk makes up the three players in the US team that have experience of winning a Ryder Cup. Although clearly talented, he has only managed two tournament victories since 2004. Chad Campbell: Started the year well with victory in the Bob Hope classic. Made his Ryder Cup debut in the defeat at Oakland Hills in 2004. David Toms: Since the last Ryder Cup has suffered a health scare. While playing at the 84 Lumber Classic in September of 2005, Toms collapsed and was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with a heart condition. Managed to get back on top of his game and capped his comeback with a victory in Hawaii this season. Chris DiMarco: Another player that has put up with his fair share of personal adversity since the last Ryder Cup. DiMarco has overcome that to qualify for what will be his second Cup appearance. Stewart Cink: Without a tournament victory since winning the 2004 MCI Classic. Cink is one of this years captains picks. Scott Verplank: The second of Tom Lehmans captains picks. Verplank made his debut in the defeat at Oakland Hills in 2004. Vaughan Taylor, J.J. Henry, Zach Johnson, Brett Wetterich: All four players make their Ryder Cup debuts at the K Club. Top USA Points Scorer Prices from sportingodds.com: Woods 2/1, Furyk 4/1, Mickelson 6/1, DiMarco 15/2, Toms 9/1, Cink 12/1, Verplank 14/1, Campbell 20/1, Henry 25/1, Johnson 25/1, Taylor 40/1, Wetterich 66/1. Updated Monday 18 September 14:10 --------------------------------- [28] Wenger - best win at OT --------------------------------- Posted Monday, September 18, 2006 by ed: "I can keep telling the players they are great but if the words are not backed up by points, it is bound to have a subconscious effect on the players. People have been writing us off, to the extent that some of them have even had us playing in Division One next season. I believe they have been very quick to draw their conclusions but equally, I am not stupid enough to think nothing can happen to us. I have seen very good teams suddenly look average when doubt creeps in. Given those circumstances, and the authority with which we played, this has to be my best win over United at Old Trafford and one that sends out the right signals to everyone." --------------------------------- [27] Rio on missed drugs test --------------------------------- Posted Monday, September 18, 2006 by ed: "I was a fool, I made a mistake. I tried to rectify it and rang the FA but I couldn't get through to anyone. I took a test two days later and was clear. I didn't cry, I still thought I could play football. I don't want sympathy, I just want people to understand the truth of what happened." --------------------------------- [26] Keane on SKY yesterday --------------------------------- Posted Monday, September 18, 2006 by ed: It was frustrating for me to, especially with the way the result went, The manager will be bitterly disappointed. What will have frustrated the manager most is that it was a bad day, but when you have your bad days you still want to get something out of the game. I think with ten minutes to go he would have been delighted with a draw. But I dont think United need to panic. It was a disappointing result, but they have the experience and they will be fine. I don think United are [missing bite in midfield]. It was just today. And, credit to Arsenal, they did well. I thought Cesc Fabregas was outstanding today, especially for the goal. I don't think you can be too harsh on Ronaldo for losing the ball. There should have been a few more tackles once Fabregas got the ball. Hes a good player, but somebody should have got to him earlier. --------------------------------- [25] Gary Nev - look forward --------------------------------- Posted Monday, September 18, 2006 by ed: "We've got to make sure we don't get too downhearted about today. We've had a tough week and we've now got to recover tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday and then look forward to Reading. We've got to win the next match. You've got to make sure when you've lost at this club that you recover quickly and go back on another run. We knew we had three big games this week and we wanted to win all three. We failed at the last one today. We looked tired for some reason. Arsenal have had the same games this week so there's no reason why we should have looked in a worse state than them, but it did look like that at times and they were fresh. I think today we can't complain. We looked tired at times, didn't pass the ball well and got punished. We found out today that if you give the ball away in the middle of the field Arsenal are still the best at running off you and breaking quickly. We did that too many times today. When you've not played well and there's five minutes left you think 'a draw's not a bad result'. But we paid for our mistakes once, and once is all it needs." This is my first full season and Im understanding things more; playing for United, English football, what the Boss wants. Six months ago it was not very good for me, but it was good for my experience, for my head, because every day, every game, every training session I was learning. In France the game is relaxed in defence. You have time on the ball. But in England you always have forwards or midfielders on you. I am enjoying it very much now. If you come to Manchester you want competition. If I didnt want competition I would have stayed in Monte Carlo because it was easy for me and I played every game. It is good for me here because I work harder. Im never sure that I will play every game. Its not just football either, but in life. I eat well. I sleep well. It is more important now that I make these sacrifices in my life because Manchester United is a big, big club." --------------------------------- [23] Official site on loans --------------------------------- Posted Monday, September 18, 2006 by ed: 'Ben Foster kept his first clean sheet of the season, pulling off some fine saves at Watford held Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa to a goalless draw at Vicarage Road. Jonny Evans scored his first goal for Royal Antwerp, netting after 25 minutes at KV Oostende. The hosts drew level almost immediately, however, before hitting a late winner to inflict Antwerp's first defeat of the season. Fraizer Campbell and Danny Simpson also completed 90 minutes, while Darron Gibson is still carrying a knee injury. Phil Bardsley was sent off for two bookable offences as Rangers lost 2-1 at Hibernian. Lee Martin completed 71 minutes for the Gers before being substituted. Tim Howard's Everton were held to a 2-2 draw by Wigan at Goodison Park, despite twice taking the lead. David Moyes' side slip to fourth in the Premiership as a result. Chris Eagles was booked on his full debut for NEC Nijmegen. The Dutch side were hammered 3-0 at Heerenveen, and are next to bottom in the Eridivisie with just one point from the first four games. Giuseppe Rossi was an unused substitute as Newcastle won 2-0 at West Ham through goals from Damien Duff and Obafemi Martins. Gerard Pique is yet to make his bow for Real Zaragoza. The young Spaniard warmed the bench as his side scored twice in the second half to seal a 2-0 win over Real Mallorca. Adam Eckersley was an unused substitute in Brondby's 2-0 win over Esbjerg. Rene Meulensteen's side remain second in the Danish Superliga as a result.' ------------------------------------------------------------------------ For United books, videos, DVDs etc http://www.rednews.co.uk/ama.php?id=amazon ------------------------------------------------------------------------ For the very latest news check out the website: http://www.rednews.co.uk Yahoo!
