Hi !

Just have to add mho to this

>Oh, and you forgot a few more summaries on the Hard Drives
>- Maxtor has great support over the Internet and Phone, especially in the US

Hmmmmm, i have to admit that the harddrive i sent in and that was reported
as "u never sent it" was sent by me with registered mail and reply card
within the states. Was the only time i did a RMA within the USA coz is was
in CT when my harddisk died. Maybe they rejected to help me coz i am from
europe.

>- Fuji drives suck in home use

I disagree, mine works fine, fast, silent and reliable on daily use (1.6
GB Fujitsu).

>- Fuji drives rock in high stress environments.

Hmm, i gave up kicking my puter around. ;) *joke*

>- No one really likes Connor particularly much

Noone has to anymore, coz Seagate bought Connor years ago...since that
time they produce useable drives.

>- There are two distinct sets of folks here on the list, at least with
>respect to hard drives... the "Get it cheap or don't get it at all" crowd
>and the "Money is no object, so get the Gold Plated Ferrari for your daily
>driver" crowd... aka "I have a wife and kids" and "I'm a bachelor" ;)

No, i disagree. I am also looking our for getting hardware as costless as
possible, but i don't go for cheap shit. And my experience in 15 years of
working with puter hardware (in last years daily) is that Maxtor sells just
cheap shit, sorry to be so harsh, but it is the same trap as with Soyo
boards, both die like one-day-flies. In these cases cheap means not
costless, it means cheap in material, cheap in quality and cheap in
support. I am happy if u have different and positive experiences and i
don't blame u for having a Maxtor drive. The first question was which
hardware is worth the price to buy it and many of us listees answered
(although it is pretty ot). Presenting ym experience with Maxtor drives
comes down to one single line: "Do not buy a Maxtor drive !". Tastes and
budgets are different and so experiences are. To set a final line, i me
personally rather spend more money and have sth i am happy with than
purchasing sth where the only fun is that i got it cheap.

>I guess that just means hard drive preferences are a matter of personal
>feelings.

Yes, u say it. Same with cars or VCRs or TVs or coffee makers or toasters
or beer brands or whateveronecanthinkof. The discussion is not meant to
devide ppl into groups, i took it more as an exchange of experiences and
the replies show that most of us are damn happy with IBM drives.

                        Greez

                                        Dave

PS.: Any comments bout my english ? Was it understandable what i wrote ?
Just interested about if my schooling sucks or not, hehehehe.
