sendmail question

Hi all,
If I use fetchmail to get my mail,
I take it I must run sendmail to
recieve the mail on my local machine.
Is there an easy way to set up
sendmail so it only runs when
I use fetchmail to pick up mail
or pine to send it or do I have
to run it as a dameon all the time?
