Actually, Kyle, I was not as clear as I should have been. New kernel should be *installed* (-ivh) and NOT upgraded. Now the system has two kernels. What I meant about GRUB is that it notices that there are two kernels, and automatically allows you to boot from either one. It does not delete, invalidate, remove, or otherwise hamper anything.
