KDE vs Gnome

An age old question for the collective...KDE or Gnome...

Greetings all! I have an older (266MHz 96MB RAM) PC running RedHat 7.3. It plods along at a decent rate. I installed the KDE desktop just out of force of habit and was wondering if Gnome would run quicker or if there is really no drastic performance differences.
