Open an xterm; You'll need it to start GMC.

Then look for a session management app in the menu system. You'll need to
change nautilus from 'respawn' to 'delete'. If you can only change it to
'normal' then do that and then kill it using the command line in the
xterm: killall nautilus

Then start gmc in the xterm: gmc &

In the session manager, change gmc to 'respawn'. Now switch back to the
xterm and type: save-session

Now whenever you login to a GNOME session, you should get gmc instead of
nautilus.
