If Mandrake is working for you why bother switching? They are mostly similar. Most of the people I know who have used both prefer RedHat on their servers and Mandrake on their workstations. Just because of the steady and reliable releases from RedHat for servers. And bleeding edge, whiz bang (but sometimes slightly buggy) packages from Mandrake. The only reason I use RedHat on my workstations instead of Mandrake is that I have dozens of RedHat servers, and I test everything on my workstation before moving it into production. Mandrake also tends to have more support for plug-n-play multimedia devices like dual head X-configs, USB devices and Sound and Video stuff, not that it can't be done with RedHat, just that with Mandrake I've seen it auto-configure those things more often. > 2. Is OpenOffice compatable with MS Office? Star Office? Mostly yes, just about everything works, but there are some obscure things that Documentation Specialists know how to do in MS Office that don't translate. Every Word/Excell document I receive in e-mails works just fine in Open Office. > 3. I read somewhere (a LOOOOOOOOONG time ago) that Linux requires an > external modem, for setup. Is this still true? No, you can use internal modems, but "Win"modems may cause you problems. That being said, many of todays internal modems are very odd. Look on the hardware compatability list. http://hardware.redhat.com/hcl/ > 4.
