I see you got a few replies already. Howard wrote a few pastiches besides the Cthulhu stuff. Skullface is a pastiche of Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu and the Breckinridge Elkins stories are very similar in style to Bret Harte.
I suppose some Rohmer and Harte fans would take as dim a view of Howard as others here do of de Camp, Carter, etc. It is all just a matter of taste. If you like Howard's style you might want to read some Jack London, Bret Harte, Harold Lamb, Talbot Mundy, etc. If you just like adventure/fantasy fiction I'd suggest Edgar Rice Burroughs and H. Rider Haggard. If you want to try some (semi) mainstream fiction that has a Howardian edge I'd suggest reading Chuck Palahniuk and Daniel Woodrell. --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > For any of you that aren't purists, which other > Conan writer sounds most like > REH to you?
