Though i think conan would have enjoyed your metaphor were he real, i think that people are speaking too much of the pastiches and not enough of the original conan stories written by other authors set in Howards world.  Though i do not always enjoy their portrayal of the world altogether, as they do not seem to make them as Howard would have written them altogether, I still find them enjoyable in spite of all of their flaws:  Just as i enjoyed Howards Cthulu efforts.
