I am considering getting a squeezebox, I thought I'd install the SlimServer and experiment with ripping some CDs. I want to use lossless and FLAC seems to be the most popular choice. I spent some time finding ripping software and options. I am now using MARS and have ripped about 10 CDs. SlimServer sees my music but there are a few things not right. I seem to be missing all the important tag information, it does get artist/album/track name (I am guessing from the file/directory naming structure) but no genre or year. If I check the individual files in Windows there are no tags at all. SlimServer also decided to file Audioslave's Out of Exile under 'no artist/no album' even though the file naming for it is the same as all the others which do show up fine.
I guess the question is how do I rip FLAC files and get the right tagging? If I am to undertake the ripping of hundreds of CDs I want to get all the information right. SlimServer also does weird things, it picked up the sample music from windows, after deleting those files and rescanning, they still show up.
