Not that this helps, but I have exactly the same problem and have had for quite a while now. Some images will just not display as thumbnails in the album list view, although they display just fine in the individual album view. I've tried taking the offending images into Photoshop and making small changes before resaving them to see if that helped at all, but no difference. The same thumbnails have problems whether viewed via Firefox ot IE.
