FYI, there are portable players which play FLAC (but I don't know of any car-specific ones other than Phatbox). Some portable players I randomly found are:
Rio Karma (discontinued, but available sometimes) iAudio T2 & X5 TrekStor Vibez Cowon A2 Bluedot BMP-1430 Iwod G10 ...and of course anything which can be made to run Rockbox (various Archos, iRiver and iAudio players, and most iPods). But I'll echo other comments - really, I can't imagine a car audio system which would be able to take advantage of the difference between FLAC and high-bitrate lossy files.
