Try the opposite - try playing iTunes DRMed files without iTunes but
with Quicktime.  Won't work.

iTunes calls Quicktime simply because that's what's required to decode
.M4A and AAC files, not because Quicktime contains the Fairplay
de-encryption algorithm.

Let the iTunes/iPod sheep-people pay for it.  They don't mind paying
for low-quality copies where Apple dictate where you can play it, so
I'm sure they wouldn't mind paying for that either.
