I fear this topic can get heated, but IMHO the wiki and MusicBrainz
approach is based on a now incorrect premise, viz. that players don't
handle the Composer tag. Well, the Ipod and Squeezebox (with
CustomBrowse plug-in) do!

My approach therefore:

Composer Tag - composer, using a consistent standard from Grove of
familyname, givenname or initials (i.e. Vivaldi, Antonio or Bach, C P
E)

Artist - the soloist, orchestra/ensemble/group, leader (i.e. English
Baroque Soloists, Monteverdi Choir, John Eliot Gardiner)

Title - first movement, name in full (Concerto pour pianoforte no.4 en
Sol majeur Op. 58, I. Allegro moderato)
Title - subsequent movements, just the movement (II. Andante con moto)

Album - Composer (if sole on disk) · main work(s) on disk (Beethoven ·
Concerti 4 & 5 pour le pianoforte avec accompagnement d'orchestre or
Bach · Goldberg Variations)

That said, I increasingly rip pieces with all movements joined. I've
never think, "I'll just listen to the Minuetto..."

I appreciate that this approach means that the concept of discrete 'CD'
packages transfer to the music server, i.e. the work is *not* the
'album'. However, given the album art I think this reinforces the link,
so I keep it.
