Of all the drives I have the laptop one is the worst of all.  But would
an external drive help?  On one hand, you could use a regular desktop
drive which is almost surely better, but on the other hand you're going
through a converter chip (usually USB - IDE) which may reduce its
performance and eliminate certain features.

Regarding disabling C2, all EAC does is just ignore the C2 data coming
back, so that's no problem.
