If you never get .flac filenames then yes, the FLAC compressor either never worked or wasn't called properly.
Are you sure you're pressing the "MP3" button? That calls the compressor, not necessarily the MP3 compressor (it's a little confusing). You don't have to reinstall EAC, it's just a simple .exe file.
