I was wondering if anyone else is using their music library with different platforms. I am currently in the process of ripping all our CDs (around 1000). The idea is to use the library with Windows Media Player (sharing it to PS3/XBox360) AND iTunes (for my wife's iPod) AND SlimServer (considering buying a Squeezebox). The main problem I am running into is setting the tags such that the behavior is consistent among the 3 platforms. The main issue is that every platform seems to be using different tags for the same thing. E.g. iTunes sorts based on PERFORMERSORTORDER, while WMP and SS do it on ARTISTSORT. Also, I now found out that WMP does not look at ALBUMARTIST but uses BAND instead. I am now gonna reverse engineer the tags used by iTunes and WMP by simply setting the tags on a dummy MP3 via their GUIs and then look with MP3Tag what the names are of the tags. Idea would be that I then have a few MP3Tag Actions to copy the base tags to the tags that each platform is expecting. If anyone else has experience with this, I'd love to hear about it and any tips with it. Tnx!
