Hi Im confused about how Slimserver knows when tracks are from a Various Artists compilation. I think Ive worked it out but Im struggling to believe my solution. Would one of you give me a sense check please?
I had assumed that theres a tag, maybe the band tag or even a dedicated various artists tag to tell SS that the song is part of a Various Artists album. But I cant find any such tag when looking in either Foobar (file properties) or Mp3Tag (extended tags). So I presume there isnt one after all. When ripping EAC asks if the CD is a Various Artists disk, and I see that if it is, it uses a slightly different file naming scheme (%N. %A - %T). So Ive concluded that Slimserver looks at the file name within an album folder and if it sees an Artist name in the file format, it knows its from a Various Artists album. Is that really right?
