Are your .m4a files Nero format, do you know?

doesn't help, I suspect that page hasn't been updated for years (not
least for the fact it says SlimServer)

The only experience I have of m4a files are iTunes compatible ones, but
I have to be honest I don't use "Band".  Maybe try loading those tags
into iTunes and see what you can do with them?  If you're not a regular
user and/or don't want it on your machine longer than necessary you
could set s system restore point just before installing itnes, that
would give you a belt n' braces uninstall route.

Don't know if it would work - some 'tags' in iTunes are stored in it's
library file, and not the files themselves.  Maybe worth a shot
though?

Plan B would be to convert the offending files to a lossless format
that Squeezecenter is happier with; I've been using dBpoweramp recently
for ripping and/or file conversion, and it's great.  Free full-feature
trial period too, should be long enough to do the trick.
