Thanks MuckleEck, that seems to be a good way to organise it, though part of the problem is how do I first get the folders organised that way. I was hoping to use MP3Tag to do that but I'm kinda stuck in a catch 22 at the moment - maybe I'll try just drag them into the right folders in Windows Explorer.
