You weren't around in the days of ADPCM then :) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/89879 We should (ideally) get away from using WAV to mean "raw" - as that's not accurate. What's native for CDs is 16bit/44.1kHz PCM. Most WAV files are PCM, but not all - just like AVI or OGG, WAV is a container which can hold different stream types.
