IMHO, FLAC is the best choice if your not an all Apple person. FLAC
allows full and easy tagging/album art. Check out dBpowerAmp. It will
do fully automated ripping and batch ripping if you want it to. They
also now have a turnkey ripping solution for those that don't like or
have problems with using PCs.

FLAC can easily be converted without loss to almost any other lossless
format as well as almost any lossy format.
