mine has evolved over the years: root/audio/music/
music is divided into two categories: /downloads/ and /homerips/ at that point they nearly mirror each other in structure, (and soon i will have them basically be exact mirrors) so that each has these MAIN categories: Comedy/ Rap and Reggae/ Rock/ Easy/ Various/ Soundtracks/ Misc/ Irish/ and some of those then breakdown into sub categories, for instance "Rock" breaks down into: Classic/ New Wave/ Grunge/ Post Grunge/ sometimes i'll list artists under a MAIN category, and sometimes i don't, (only under the sub categories). i also use some specialiazed categories inside any type of category, such as: 0-PARTIALS/ 0-VARIOUS/ 0-SOUNDTRACKS/ so the list at the top of whatever folder they are in. anayway, why do i do this? b/c with winamp, you have "smartviews." smartviews are one of the best things about winamp. i can display and play tracks from just "Grunge" if thats all i want to do. i can Q the whole category into a playlist, and then save it as a playlist file SC can use. i can view downloads and home rips together, or apart. and i can switch view to view as uick as i click. so when i rip a CD, and want to update a playlist, all i have to do is put the rip in the right category. further, all my rips occur in a "staging" folder thats just for rips. i do this so i can "work" on the files b4 placing them, so again, i have a smartview just for new stuff, (rips or downloads). i can check the tags, apply RG, fix art, and then move the files. so for a Beatles ripped album, my setup looks like this: root/audio/music/homerips/rock/classic/beatles/revolver/beatles - 01 - taxman.mp3 for a soundtrack, its: ../soundtrack/austin powers/austin powers - 01 - artist - title.mp3 anyway, i find grouping your music to be VERY powerful and worthwhile, when using winamp to play it AND when making playlists. -- MrSinatra www.lion-radio.org using: sb2 (my home) / sbr (parent's home) / sbc (my home) - w/sc 7.3.3b - win xp pro sp3 ie8 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - 1tb wd usb2 raid - d-link dir-655 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61820 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
