@catbus:

i'm not sure how you think winamp is "broken" but it is not broken.

yes, it uses TPE2 to mean album artist, but so what? all mainstream
apps do; and if it used TXXX ALBUMARTIST nothing i said or complained
about would be any different. why? b/c SC can be made to treat TPE2
as album artist.

so other than that moot issue, i don't see how winamp is "broken?" i
do see how it is far more flexible and powerful in its presentation of
my library, both scanning and browsing, (not to mention editing but i'm
not asking SC to be an editor).

the only person wrong in this thread was you, who are you kidding?

i named the VA logic, AND the separate greatest hits logic. there are
other similar situations etc, i just forget them, (they aren't as
broad). but i will post em if i come across them again.

no duh phil, no duh. look at the context again, i wasn't talking about
IF this or IF that or other tags, i was talking about album artist tags,
thats it, vis a vis SC, and what i said is true.

and moreover the salient point i was trying to make is that SC
shouldn't imo make assumptions about something being a comp or not
simply based on if that tag is present. but you don't want to hear it,
and don't like what i'm saying, so you set up a strawman that i never
argued against. i already quoted what i said earlier in the thread, no
need to do it again, (ie. you didn't tell me anything i hadn't already
said myself!)

my point is that the VA logic itself is unnecessary. having the tag or
not having it should have no bearing at all on what/how SC classifies
it, UNLESS the user OPTS to use the VA logic.

at the very least, they should be able to opt out.

and this issue just illustrates SCs limited browsing abilities, ie.
what goes into the "artists" list at any one time. but as i said,
perhaps the new schema will bring in a whole new era to the navigation
and options and scanning etc... i'm sure we can both agree that things
could be a lot better and not as complicated.
