I think if you have a choice between stereo 16/48 and multi-channel
24/96 you are better off going with the stereo version.  A down-mixed
version always sounds like crap compared to a professionally mixed
stereo version.  Another option is to rip the 24/96 as individual
channels and encode to a 24/96 DTS track, which you can convert to FLAC
and play through your SB to a DTS receiver.  The steps to actually
achieve this are not trivial I'm sure...  Also, you would be losing bits
as DTS is lossy, although to me 24/96 DTS sounds very good.
