Encouraged by posts here I've tried ripping DVD-As with DVD A Explorer.
So far so good. But as BigBirdy and others have said it's the
multi-channel only files with no downmix available that's the problem.

So far I've got the front channels of some orchestral discs - which
sound very good (the rear channels were purely ambient information).
However getting a good stereo mix of discs with programme info in the
rear channels seems beyond me.

If you Combine Groups to create a single file with 5.1 information is
there any software editor available (free or cheap) to achieve a
suitable downmix? Or is this the Holy Grail of Hi-Res ripping?

Also, from what I've read, ripping SACDs is a total no-go area - which
is a pity . . .
