@funkstar: i am running SC 7.3.3. @andyg: thanks for the suggestion. let me do one or two more tests to confirm. i remember having a similar problem a while back, and it depended on what "now playing" screensaver i was using. the large spectrum analyzer would cause this effect quite often, which is why i stopped using it. now i use the analog VU, which causes this much less often. yesterday, when i was testing for a different problem on a windows based SC, i could not reproduce this problem. (?) but "now playing" was not a screensaver at all, it was just "now playing". supposedly, that uses the least possible cpu cycles which perhaps allowed the vorbis decoder enough processor time to properly decode the "offending" tracks.
