Usually it doesn't need to be. Doesn't hurt, but SqueezeCenter can usually figure out when an album is a compilation. No, it's not necessary, as that's essentially the default. But it doesn't hurt anything either. I have a habit of tagging every track in my library with either COMPILATION=1 or COMPILATION=0.
