ok, but i guess what i meant is it might not ALSO work with other apps that might be equally important to you, and/or you might get the "wrong" genre entry reported, ie the secondary one, etc... meaning unwanted results that would be a pain to fix. as you pointed out elsewhere, itunes as an example doesn't work with separator characters, and likewise some apps wouldn't handle multiple frames right either. same thing. Philip Meyer;454876 Wrote: > > >btw, just to be clear, i don't "pollute" ARTIST tags but rather AA > tags, > Album Artist tags are a type of artist, therefore you are poluting the > Browse Artists list with non-artist items. all i was doing was clarifying which exact tag was getting that treatment. having said that, the way i look at it is that the ARTIST ta denotes artist, and AA is just for placement. it does exactly what i want it to do when used like this. i don't want "Rodney Dangerfield" followed by Rolling Stones. i want all the comedy grouped together in the list, thats the point. Philip Meyer;454876 Wrote: > > >b/c i use those to simply sort my music, not identify the artist. > Why Album Artist though? b/c i browse my lists in artist order, with categories on the way, like comedy. my main way of browsing music in SC is home > albums and then sorted as artist > year > album with artwork. using AA makes that work the way i want in SC, and more importantly, in most other apps as well. again, AA is not Artist. it makes more sense to me to use that than another field that doesn't have a secondary frame like AA is to artist, and besides AA is given priority already. Philip Meyer;454876 Wrote: > The same could be done with Album title or Genre. Eg. prefix all > soundtrack album titles with "OST: ", or add categories onto your Genre > "Rock;OST". i want to go in artist order, not album title order, nor do i want to "pollute" that frame as it is used for display on the SB or browser. and my genre tags need a lot of work still, but i don't browse that way either anyway. i like the artist list with a few categories on the way. Philip Meyer;454876 Wrote: > What do you do if there is a christmas comedy soundtrack album (okay, > maybe you haven't got many of those, but let's go with the concept!). > Would your album artist be "Christmas - Comedy - Soundtrack - Chas & > Dave"? i don't put "xmas" in AA tags, i use folder hierarchy for that. i do put "Classical" in there tho so i do have a few like this: Classical (Soundtrack Film) and maybe one like this: Classical (Soundtrack Film) Mozart or something like that. i'll check later. overall tho, there are very few cases like that, but again i like it, works just exactly the way i want it to. Philip Meyer;454876 Wrote: > If so, you would not have all Comedy together, and you wouldn't have all > Soundtracks together. i.e. it's not possible to sort a list of things, > when things can have multiple items. in a list of all my music, i would only want items to appear once. so bassically i decide where i would most want it to be, and i usually decide that by where i think i would look for it first. i fail to see a problem with that, like i said, i don't want the same thing listed more than once, regardless of how many areas it may fit.
