yep, i get all that and i agree.

right. so in other words, to sort it where you want it.

yes, i am not using an "artist" name specifically in all cases, but so
what? whats the problem with making the AA tag put eg. all comedy
albums together?

don't misunderstand me, i am NOT saying my method is by spec or is how
others should do it, or is how things were intended; its just how i see
it and do it, it works for me given the environment and best of all it
works to give the same exp across all apps.

i don't need to and don't want to. AA does what i want and the method
i use works with virtually EVERY other app out there, which is important
to me since i want my library presented a certain way regardless of
which app someone might use on it.

AASORT is not going to be as broadly compatible.

actually i didn't know that, but it doesn't make a difference, b/c
other apps don't support it. c'est la vie.

i share my music with really, a lot of people, and other the years my
methods have gotten more and more advanced, and without exception,
everyone likes it better haing the comedy stuff grouped together rather
than randomly populating the list. and within comedy, it is
alphabetical mind you. this way of doing it is somethng i started maybe
~1.5 years ago and thats the feedback from those who had it both ways.

now, if i could control "special case" categories in SC, and simply
list them at the top where the VA one is, and control what goes in it by
AA tags, i might do that, but since that likely will never happen, i can
live with this just fine, esp since it duplicates the actual browsing
exp across apps.

understand, we're talking apples and oranges here.

for the purposes of browsing the albums (via artwork in an app) whether
its SC or another app, its all arranged by AA tag, ALL of it.

however, for the purposes of STORING my music, (in folders/dirs on a
drive), its arranged in a semi-complex system of genre named folders and
sub-folders. i do that b/c i can instantly make playlists that way that
allow me to exclude xmas for instance, simply by where i file an album
post-rip.

i do not as yet really use genre *tags* for anything, they need a lot
of work, but eventally i will do so.

as to being different, yes i am sure i am in a minority compared to how
most people bother with it, and i am even more sure you're in an even
smaller minority given the lengths you go to to manage yours. :)
