Until recently I have ripped everything as VMA VBR at the maximum rate. This has been fine but I've had to replace one of my portable players so I'm switching to iTunes. Since I have a bigger disk and might want to convert back to WMA I'm ripping as AAC lossless.
What I've noticed is that the result is a lot quieter. The VU meter screen saver on my SB3 is rarely getting more than a third of the way up (5 on the display if that means anything) whereas with the WMA VBR it frequently encroached on the 'red' +ve area. I've had to increase the volume on my Hifi (the SB3 runs at maximum itself). I'm rather surprised that I can actually hear a difference (and it's an improvement) but is there any significance to the volume difference? Does MP4 have a better dynamic range for instance? -- AndrueC ------------------------------------------------------------------------ AndrueC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6612 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73703 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
