I'll look at what you suggest. Tbh I haven't had many problems with WMP.
In fact the only ones I've had have been old CDs have playback problems
anyway. The immediate problem with changing from WMP is that I've just
spend the last week ripping my music collection using iTunes and after
over 200 albums I just don't feel like doing it all again right now :)

I have however found an explanation for that problem CD. I realised
that although it was a recent purchase I had ripped it on a different
machine because I was away from home then copied the result to my
server. When I tried to rip it again on the server using WMP the same
problem occurred. It therefore seems that there's a problem with ripping
on that machine.

The server is actually a cheap laptop I bought recently which came
without an OS. It may well be a driver or firmware issue. I'll start a
separate thread to see if anyone can shed any light on that.
