have you checked the artist tag for anomalies?  The other thing that
springs to mind is whether or not you have a mix of tag types (e.g.
vorbis and id3) in a single file.  Search this forum for threads that
cover the topic and the solution - basically you want to configure
mp3tag to remove tag types from files where they're not the native tag
type for the file type e.g. you shouldn't have id3 tags in a flac file.
If mp3tag's correctly configured you can select all tracks and do a tag
cut/ tag paste to remove all incorrect tag types and write them back in
the appropriate format having regard to the underlying file type.
