Mine are mostly FLAC. And most do NOT have album artist tags (I
intentionally do NOT use album artist tags except for compilations and
for things like Neil Young as album artist even though the track artist
is "The Squires". 

But your example raises another question. You note that they have
overlap in artists, with one album A,B,C and another album A, D, E.  If
I have albums with multiple artists, it would be a COMPILATION to me,
and the complilation tag would have a value of "1". Is this happening
to you with albums with a SINGLE artist (i.e., a greatest hit album
name for one artist only).
