wow, no floating point. i wonder if an ARM can compress in real time
consistently? (streaming wav might be easiest. its uncompressed, so
easy on the cpu, just heavy on the LAN bw. however, it might be heavy
on the streamer too, i'm simply too novice to know. i think the more
you compress though, the more heavy on the cpu)

so the beaglebox can accept digital audio from the DAB digitally, and
it also has a rs-232 that it could use (via a script or something) to
understand the rs-232 output of the DAB?

basically, you just need a streamer that can handle the audio and pair
it with metadata from the rs-232 source. this is something i will also
need to figure out eventually for the station, how to get metadata (XML
in my case) that isn't travelling with the audio into a streamer like
shoutcast. (i want to pair the xml metadata with the soundcard input,
which is analog off the air FM in my case)

but i think you're in a tough spot trying to get a baby arm with no
floating point to do all that, although maybe i'm all wet on that
score.

however, the metadata should conform to either id3, or ogg vorbis,
(maybe even APE2, not sure anything else important exists) and either
way, pretty much any client, including the SBoxen should be able to
handle it. (getting the metadata INTO the streamer is the trick, it
should i believe handle standardizing the output) my understanding is
the metadata travels with the audio, simultaneously, but separately.
its not "part" of the audio, like in a local file.

is the beaglebox linux? did you look at the new shoutcast? icecast?
etc?
