role play for reward is just pushing a button to raise a stat. if you want people to role play, give them an environment that encourages it. 'rewarding' role play is as much BS as (publicly) 'punishing' people who don't.
all of that said, i have a monstrously modified Rom that i was going to use as a pure RP mud. it has no levels or classes. it does have grid-based world that loads from an XPM file (color = sector type) hexagonal overhead wilderness view non-linear char gen material-based objects, with 'realistic' density, weight, etc player and NPC races merged cleaned up and automated OLC a really, really, really cleaned up, although mostly non-playable, code base and one metric tonne of other changes. i stopped working on it back in 1999. i can put up a tarball or even CVS if anyone's interested. let me repeat: it is not playable. it will take a lot of work to make it so. it put a copy up on mud.soccerchix.org 4000. i'm currently raiding that code base for a second, level-based, class-having Rom-based role play mud that i am actively working on. if anyone out there would like to collaborate, pays attention to detail, and is not opposed to GPLing their (code) changes, please give me a holler. i would be happy to put this one in CVS as well. please CC: me directly on replies as i have LKML spam to wade thru. ;) playing a role, -- Blue Lang http://www.b-side.org/~blue editor, b-side.org http://www.b-side.org bug generation unit, alanthia mud alanthia.org 1536 integration engineer, veritas software http://www.veritas.com
