If this is not a good idea, please say so, otherwise I'll log it on sf. In the track editor you can create a new segment by drawing it using the "Pencil" tool. You start by drawing the first bar and continue drawing to extend the segment, bar by bar, to be as long as required. To adjust the length of an existing segment, you can move its left edge or right edge by dragging the edge using the "Resize" tool.
The "Erase" tool with the eraser icon does not, surprisingly, behave as its eraser icon would suggest. If you click on any part of a segment using the "Erase" tool, the entire segment disappears, whereas one would expect an eraser to erase just the bar where you clicked or alternatively a fraction of a bar if you were holding down the Shift key. Suggestion: Make the "Erase" tool be like an eraser. This could probably be implemented by borrowing a significant amount of the existing code for shrinking of segments as provided by the "Resize" tool.
