Is there any alternative text that might convey the right sort of
meaning? I already had to change the English text from the intended
"<no plugin>" to "<none>" because of the overriding requirement to
fit in a very narrow space. You could also consider changing or
omitting the angle brackets.

I could try restoring stretchability to the widgets, but I think at
the moment they try to grab a bit too much padding that I haven't
really worked out how to disable, and so the whole thing ends up
rather too wide. It's a tricky one. You can see why commercial
audio software usually seems to use carefully pre-drawn bitmaps of
the texts used in space-sensitive widgets.

Of course, the other thing that's typically done is to abbreviate the
texts.

Yes, but you see this really is a case where allowing the full text
would make the widget too wide. My offhand metric for the widths of
these mixer strips is that I should be able to fit 16 faders, two
submasters and a master onto my 1280 pixel wide screen. It would be
nice to have an option to permit more space if it's available, but
the default really does have to be as tightly packed as possible.

Also, again, this is a case where the English had to lose out as well;
it was originally "Input". I really don't know what to suggest.

Fine by me. I wasn't thinking of guns anyway.
