You mean "Qt was fucking up the fonts we had chosen". Nothing wrong with the
fonts.

The particular problem seems to be that the font names we originally specified
usually map to bitmap fonts, which have a limited size, so Qt is doing
something to scale the fonts up (?) but not doing the corresponding
transformation to the metrics. (I don't quite believe that, as Qt has always
shown the Times fonts as antialiased on my screen anyway.) Why that should
cause problems with Qt 3.2 but not with Qt 3.1 I don't know, but perhaps as
you suggest it could be something to do with having the metrics generated
from the font directly (and thus perhaps limited to the maximum nominal size
of the font) rather than the painter (which may have a larger scaled version
even of a pixmap font available). Or some other similar cockup.

Anyway, in my tests at the moment, the dynamic texts (i.e. all the ones below
the staff in glazunov.rg first segment) are being omitted entirely,
regardless of which font family I choose.

I guess if this sort of thing can actually fix it then it may be tolerable.
But it would need to work well and be done right: ideally get rid of those
unused font sizes, take the default fonts from KDE-global or Konqueror
configuration or some such (just to be sure that they're things that do
actually exist) etc. I'm not sure I wouldn't rather just see a more
intelligent guess at a suitable default family, for now, than see it worked
around with a new feature that isn't really complete bang in the middle of a
feature freeze.
