2007/6/5, D. Michael McIntyre <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

However, if there is no longer any way to print Rosegarden's own on-screen
interpretation of the state of things, it immediately renders the
micro-positioning feature completely useless. (From my perspective, it
already *is* largely useless, since I only print via LilyPond, and it's
not
exportable. I mostly use it to reposition LilyPond export tags so they
are
out of my way.)

LilyPond supports micro-positioning, and there is already Rosegarden
implementation for LilyPond export on adjustments of notest to left and
right. It is useful if you have one note up (\stemUp g'), and another down
(\stemDown f') in different track, but they are connected to same staff
using the same name of the track. They will have the same horizontal
position, since note collision is not handled in LilyPond when notes are in
different voices, therefore the lower note may need an adjustment to the
right. I have used it several times when producing vocal scores.

There may be other casualties. There is a problem with stem directions for
sure. Our stem directions are only exported explicitly if they are not
computed automatically, but we make different choices from LilyPond in
certain edge cases, and this impacts slur direction in particular. Say I
have flipped a slur, which *is* exported, but that flip presupposes an
alternate stem direction from what LilyPond chooses; the result is a slur
that's obviously flipped the wrong way on the printed page.

I agree on these concerns. Explicit exporting of stem and slur directions
was the easiest.

The feature which I would have personally needed was setting the DIRECTION
OF A TIE.
LilyPond 2.10 already is able to set tie direction (up or down), hopefully
also Rosegarden will do so soon.
