An alternative temporary workaround could be to define a new macro for the
location of these files, and let the ones whose build breaks redefine it in
their specs, we'd just declare it their responsibility to clean up etc if they
override.
That may be simpler to implement, but we lose the ability to issue warnings, so
that's a downside. We would like to enforce the issue one day I guess.
