And don't forget that in years past HO also had Mantua, Herkimer (OK Car 
Co - different name co - same cars), Model Power, Pennline, and even 
brass imports from Tenshoda that were way too short.  Somewhere I still 
have a few of the Herkimer 60' cars, but I sold off the brass Tenshoda 
cars years ago.

Bottom line, under-scale length cars have existed, and still do, in all 
modeling scales to satisfy the needs of the masses who want passenger 
trains and either do not have the space available for full-length cars, 
or simply do not care.

In S scale , you have three realistic options.... 1) run freight only, 
2) live with some under-scale cars and be happy with few full-length 
cars available or coming in resin, or 3) open your wallet and start a 
new company.
